WARNING
Be careful of purchasing a kayak during "run-out" sales
What looks like a bargain (especially if it is heavily discounted) can actually turn out to be a pain in the long run.
If a store is discontinuing a brand/product, it usually means that they will no longer have a relationship with the importer, and this can leave you with limited support in the event of a warranty issue or when requiring replacement parts.
There have been a number of changes in the paddling industry in recent years with brands moving between different importers.
Your problem could be...
Who is responsible if you have a warranty issue??
- The previous importer has no incentive to fix any problems you have
- The current importer will probably say that it is not their problem because the craft was not supplied by them, and
- With the parent company overseas, this can leave you in no-mans land.
Because of a couple of experiences like this in the past where importers have changed, Kayaks Australia purchases most of our watercraft direct from local manufacturers or from the manufacturer's representative in Australia.
